Public filing guidance
Frequently asked questions.
The short version: you pay the posted price, receive a permanent public receipt, and make the next person’s price exactly $1 higher.
What is this?
One public button with one continuous price and one permanent history. It began at $1 USD. Every legitimate finalized purchase raises the next posted price by exactly $1.
What do I get?
A permanent public receipt with its own stable page, filing number, amount, public name and message, and the next price your purchase caused. You can save or share a receipt image reconstructed from that public record.
Where does the money go?
Payments are received by the creator/operator of Make This Button More Expensive. You’re paying to participate in the permanent public record and move the button exactly $1 higher for the next person. There is no prize, investment return, or ownership interest.
What currency am I charged in?
Charged in USD. Your card issuer may convert the amount or apply its own fees.
Which payment methods work?
MTBME currently accepts eligible card payments through Stripe Checkout. Depending on your device, browser, and Stripe eligibility, a card wallet such as Apple Pay may appear. Other payment methods, including crypto/stablecoins, are not enabled for MTBME checkout.
Can my receipt promote something?
Names, messages, and text URLs may promote your work. Self-promotion alone is not a moderation reason. Malicious or harmful content may be redacted or hidden from public presentation without changing the receipt’s permanent payment and ladder facts. Buyer-requested corrections remain limited to non-substantive typo or formatting fixes. URLs remain plain text; the site does not turn buyer-supplied URLs into links.
Does the price ever reset or rewind?
No. There are no seasons, rounds, automatic resets, or reused receipt numbers. A later refund, dispute, chargeback, or presentation moderation action does not rewind the permanent price ladder.
What if two people try to buy the same price?
Only one verified authorization can win the current price and be captured. A losing authorization is canceled rather than intentionally charged, although an issuer may show a temporary hold while it clears. The losing buyer is never automatically charged the higher price and must deliberately retry.
Which timezone do timestamps use?
Times on the site are shown in your browser/device’s local timezone. Changing timezone does not change when a receipt was actually filed.
Who handles my card number?
Card numbers are collected by Stripe Checkout, not by the MTBME name/message form. The site derives the exact USD amount from its authoritative database and never asks the browser to decide the price.
